The youth hockey program at the Jacksonville Ice & Sportsplex is designed to provide kids of all ages with a clear path to follow through the different levels of achievement required to successfully learn the fundamentals of skating and the game of hockey.
Our trained and USA Hockey Certified coaching staff have designed the hockey pipeline to ensure that kids learn the correct skating techniques and safety skills to enjoy a lifetime of playing hockey. With each level of completion, players will have the proficiency for a rewarding experience at the next level and play the game of hockey to the best of their ability.
Step 1: Learn to Skate USA: Hockey 1-4
In the various stages of the First Coast Skating Academy Learn to Skate program, kids will learn the fundamentals of forward and backward skating, turning, and stopping that are needed to play hockey. These classes follow the curriculum that has been approved by USA Hockey and passing is a requirement before moving on to Hockey 101.
Step 2: Hockey 101
Upon completing Learn to Skate Hockey 1-4, skaters will move into Hockey 101 where they will learn intermediate skating skills and the beginning stages of power skating. Additionally, they will be introduced to the fundamental skills of hockey including stick handling, passing, shooting, and positional play.
Step 3: House Hockey League
Our House League is a developmental hockey program in a fun and equal participation format. Teams will have practice and/or games two times per week and leagues run in the Fall, Winter, and Summer.
Step 4: Travel Hockey League
For hockey players looking for a high-intensity and highly competitive format, we offer a travel hockey league program for the 12U and 14U age groups. This includes two practices per week plus weekly games against teams across the state of Florida. The season runs from September through February.
